Hiab knuckle boom crane service and repair
Bring your Hiab crane to our shop at 906 West Gore St in Orlando, or call first and tell us what the crane is doing.
Robert's Diesel Works has repaired cranes and the trucks they sit on at 906 West Gore St since 1989. We are an independent shop, not Hiab and not a Hiab service point, and we work on every make of knuckle boom crane and boom truck that comes through the door, Hiab included.
The faults we see most
- Cylinders that leak or drift down: inner boom, outer boom, extension, outrigger and slewing cylinders resealed or rebuilt
- Slewing trouble: play, noise, or a crane that will not stay where you put it; racks, pinions and slewing bearings
- Outriggers that creep, leak down or will not stow: holding valves, cylinders and hoses
- Worn booms: slide pads, pins and bushings replaced and the extensions shimmed back into line
- Winches that slip or will not hold a load: brakes, motors and wire rope
- Controls and safety systems: control valves, levers, overload system faults and radio remotes
- Corrosion on cranes that work near salt water: seized pins, corroded switches and wiring
The truck under the crane
A worn PTO, a tired pump, low engine speed or a cracked frame all look like a crane that has lost its strength. We repair diesel trucks in the same building, so a crane problem that turns out to be a truck problem is fixed in one visit instead of two.
Need a part for a Hiab crane?
Read us the model and serial number off the crane's plate, add the part number or a photograph, and we will find the part and quote it, new or used.
Getting it looked at
Call (877) 697-6272 and describe what the crane does and when it started. Have the model and serial number ready, and send a photograph if the fault is visible. Often we can tell you on the phone whether it needs a part, a rebuild or a shop visit. Parts on their own are on the Hiab crane parts page.
Inspecting a used Hiab before you buy
We take cranes apart for a living, so we look at a used unit the way a buyer should: the cylinders, the slewing gear, the boom pads and pins, the outriggers, the controls and the truck under it. If you are buying a used Hiab crane from someone else, we can inspect it first. We do not sell new Hiab cranes; used knuckle boom cranes and crane trucks are listed at drywallcranes.com.
What we do not do
Factory warranty work on a new Hiab crane goes through Hiab and its dealers, not through us. Everything after the warranty, and every make, we are happy to look at.
